Yearning for Freedom

Credit: Ratna Pochiraju

A random raindrop slips
Sparkling in the early morning light
To disappear into the tiny puddle
At the feet of the old tree

Hidden in the heavy dark clouds
The diamond drops break free
To glide and slide over the leaves
Only to lose the glitter
In the blink of an eye
And vanish again

For how long, the raindrop wondered
When dripping from the clouds
To earn the for the freedom it yearned
To shine and shimmer alone
Without merging
Into a shapeless water body

Little did the raindrop know
Its beauty and elegance lay
In its ability to unite
And give life to this world

  1. How deeply meaningful! It is not the path we traverse and its distractions that we should focus on...but embrace the ultimate truth and submerge in its beauty!

  5. Your poem reminded me of Rumi's famous quote: "You are not a drop in the ocean. You are an entire ocean in a drop."
The child-like innocence of a drop is delicately painted in your poem today.

Yes, we are all different raindrops in this world.

  7. Thy name is sacrifice!
Loosing one's identity to bring the life to other's life is the noblest of thing. That however needs a will of steel and patience.
    Wonderful message.

Yes, it also needs the person to know when to stop.

  8. The diamond drops break free, perfect! A beautiful piece about something we give little thought to.

  9. Wow the last few lines hold such deep meaning... How true... We keep yearning for such futile things in life thinking that that's where our value lies but actually our true value lies somewhere else that we just fail to acknowledge.... Beautiful poem just like always :)

  10. What lovely poems--I like the idea of a random raindrop very much. The power of something small, to affect a much larger world...
