Purple Feather

Credit: Ratna Pochiraju

A feather
A single feather
In a strange purple color
Soft and gentle, light and fragile
It danced and twirled in the wind
Landing on my outstretched palm
Out of nowhere, it curled around my fingers
Soothing my racing heart with a tender caress;
How strange was the sight of a wayward feather
Fluttering in my trembling hand
Smiling at me with assurance
That we were somehow meant to be-
Two directionless, lonely creatures
Drifting along with none to call our own
Meeting on a nameless land
To become
Mates forever.

#####
Note: The shape was supposed to resemble a feather. It's called 'I tried'.

  1. I like how you circled back to both uniting due to their directionlessness and loneliness

    1. You could try splitting the last line has single words to shape it more like a feather. Just an idea

Yes, that's a good idea. Let me try. It should work. :D

To become mates forever. Wow, your poem is like a mystery tale, and I long to see the twist always. How beautiful!!

  3. That is a harmless tale of a feather resting on an outstretched palm beautified and romanticized by your marvelous poetic skills. Two souls, the feather and you united by your lack of direction. That part reflects the poet's mood of the moment beautifully.

    1. Thank you so much, Jyoti. :) There is so much in Nature, it is ever-fascinating. Each time I find myself in a fix, I turn to Nature.

  8. I was feeling rather clever and was about to write that the shape of the poem looks like a feather as my comment and then I read your footnote and just like that--like a gentle feather- Krishna made me see my ego's fallacy.
Loved the gentleness of this poem and like Keith says--it's a beginning.

    1. Thank you so much, Arti. I'm happy that you could see the form without having to read the footnote. That makes it all worth it. <3

  10. Simply Beautiful.
That note - which ends with says " it's called I tried" - gave me goose bumps. Just love that line.

    1. Thank you, Sonia. Tiny things provide greater inspirations at times, don't they. :)
