A feather
A single feather
In a strange purple
color
Soft and gentle,
light and fragile
It danced and
twirled in the wind
Landing on my
outstretched palm
Out of nowhere, it curled
around my fingers
Soothing my racing
heart with a tender caress;
How strange was the
sight of a wayward feather
Fluttering in my
trembling hand
Smiling at me with
assurance
That we were somehow
meant to be-
Two directionless,
lonely creatures
Drifting along with
none to call our own
Meeting on a nameless
land
To become
Mates forever.
Mates forever.
#####
Note: The shape was supposed to resemble a feather. It's called 'I tried'.

I like how you circled back to both uniting due to their directionlessness and loneliness
ReplyDeleteYou could try splitting the last line has single words to shape it more like a feather. Just an idea
DeleteThank you, Namy.
DeleteYes, that's a good idea. Let me try. It should work. :D
Drifting along with none to call our own
ReplyDeleteMeeting on a nameless land
To become mates forever. Wow, your poem is like a mystery tale, and I long to see the twist always. How beautiful!!
Thank you so much, dear :)
DeleteThat is a harmless tale of a feather resting on an outstretched palm beautified and romanticized by your marvelous poetic skills. Two souls, the feather and you united by your lack of direction. That part reflects the poet's mood of the moment beautifully.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Jai. :)
DeleteBeautiful poem, and the shape is great!
ReplyDeleteP is for Pojagi
Thank you, Frederique :D
DeleteBeautiful..meeting on a nameless land, to become mates forever...how romantic is that
ReplyDeleteThank you, Arti. :D
DeleteBeautiful! Your poems draw us close to our surrounding, making us aware of everything around us. Bonding with nature and finding inspirations in it! Splendid and serene!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Jyoti. :) There is so much in Nature, it is ever-fascinating. Each time I find myself in a fix, I turn to Nature.
DeleteDid you get my comment on the post?
ReplyDeleteLooks like it's lost, Anagha. :/ Happens at times.
DeleteA chance encounter. That's how many a friendship starts I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteP is for ...
True, Keith. Many long-lasting friendships did start that way. :) Thank you for reading.
DeleteI was feeling rather clever and was about to write that the shape of the poem looks like a feather as my comment and then I read your footnote and just like that--like a gentle feather- Krishna made me see my ego's fallacy.
ReplyDeleteLoved the gentleness of this poem and like Keith says--it's a beginning.
Thank you so much, Arti. I'm happy that you could see the form without having to read the footnote. That makes it all worth it. <3
DeleteBeautiful poetry Srivalli. I'm glad to have come across this today.

DeleteSimply Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThat note - which ends with says " it's called I tried" - gave me goose bumps. Just love that line.
Thank you, Viyoma :)
DeleteSuch a lovely poem penned with a seemingly tiny feather.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sonia. Tiny things provide greater inspirations at times, don't they. :)
DeleteSimply beautiful... Both of them lonely... Both of them directionless... Meeting on a nameless island... To be tied up... Really wonderful :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Ira :)
DeleteAnd the poem in the shape of feather! Good one. :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Thank you for sharing. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lynnette :)
