To Walk Through the Snow

Credit: Ratna Pochiraju

Together they were a team
A man and his faithful furry friend
Alone yet never lonely
They lived, laughed, and lazed
In a small hut across the snow

Twice a day they ventured
To step into the world that wasn’t theirs
Side by side, they strolled
As the snow piled high
Bringing the Alps to this unknown city

The dog barked, greeting the bare trees
The man smiled, wishing them new leaves
The icy wind blew gentler
Waiting for them to walk back home

The happy team took their time
Humming a melody that was a favorite
And the narrator paused writing
Wondering what it was
To walk through the snow.

  1. To walk through the snow...and with an amazing friend, a man's best friend, must be blissful! This is so beautiful. Can imagine and rejoice in its spirit. 😊

  3. The world is complete if one has a furry pet as company. And having a friend in the journey of life is well lived. No winter can then freeze the joy of life.

  4. Ooh! Clever. Clever, use of dramatic device in this piece.
The last couple of lines bring down the fourth wall so suddenly that the reader/audience is left feeling exposed to the cold snow in a ruminative sort of way. Very effective indeed.

  5. I love the imagery that you have painted. I could imagine them too and I too, paused to wonder how it would feel like to walk through the snow.

  10. Wow a lovely solitude walk... In the white snow all around... Just one companion is needed isn't it...and even in silence with that single companion you can enjoy the bliss, the cold, the snow and everything that comes along :)!
