Emotions Unknown

Credit: Ratna Pochiraju

She sat on the riverbank
Staring away from the shimmering waves
Immersed in her memories
That threatened to slip down
The almond eyes, heavy with turmoil.

The world blurred around her
Fading away as a sigh escaped
Into the silent breeze
Carrying the pain of her heart
Over the crystal waters
To the distant lands.

Was it a plea for her lost love?
Was it a hopeless wait for recognition?
Was it a suppressed cry for one last chance?
Was it exhaustion from surrendering to fate?
Was it the regret of not speaking up?
Was it the remnants of the drained energy?
What could she say when she knew not why her heart was empty?

    1. True. Rivers have a way of bringing out mixed emotions and then providing the answers. Thank you for reading, TM. :)

Your poem reminds me of Sita Mata as she waits for Shree Ram.

  3. A whole lot of questions evoked by the flowing river. When one is sitting on the shores in a beach the waves make us ask ourselves a lot of questions too.

    1. Water does that to people I guess. It acts as the best mirror in the world. Even if we don't always like what we see.
Thank you for reading, Jai :)

    1. You're right. The water bodies are a paradox. They are cause of pain and happiness. Or maybe it's just us.
Thank you for reading, Gurjeet. :)

  7. Somehow rivers and seas... Basically water bodies have something about them. They always rekindle those lost feelings within as if the waters will engulf those within them and flow away. Beautifully portrayed and I love the painting!

  9. Such a beautiful poem. Too many times our hearts are heavy and we don't know why.

  10. The still waters of the river and the ramblings of the sea tend to stir up our emotions, no?

Or maybe it's because we tend to listen quietly to the sounds of these water bodies and end up allowing our souls to speak with us.
